More Than Being Tired

Understanding Fatigue

Fatigue is more than feeling sleepy. It is a lasting lack of energy that rest does not fix, and it can affect your body, your mind, and your mood.

Many people with ongoing fatigue are told that their labs are normal, that they are just getting older, or that they will have to live with it. Because fatigue is not a disease in itself, conventional medicine often has few tools to offer unless another disease is found.

We see fatigue as a signal. Something is draining your energy or keeping your cells from making it, and our job is to find out what.

Where Your Energy Goes

Root Causes We Look For

Fatigue usually has more than one cause. These are some of the most common contributors we look for:

01
Hormone Imbalances Low thyroid function, shifts in cortisol, and declining testosterone, estrogen, or progesterone.
02
Blood Sugar and Metabolism Insulin resistance and poor metabolic flexibility can leave your cells short on fuel.
03
Nutrient Deficiencies Low iron, B vitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, and other nutrients your cells need to make energy.
04
Poor Sleep Insomnia, restless sleep, or breathing problems at night that keep you from truly resting.
05
Hidden Infections and Toxins Chronic infections, mold, heavy metals, and other toxins that drain the body.
06
Gut and Nervous System Strain Poor digestion and a nervous system stuck in survival mode can quietly use up your reserves.
Our Approach

How We Help

Do you lack energy? Let's find out why. We start with bioenergetic testing, lab work, and an in-depth consultation to understand what is draining you.

Metabolic testing can show how well your cells use oxygen and fuel, and how your body switches between burning fat and burning glucose. From there, your plan is customized to your needs, circumstances, and preferences.

If your fatigue began after an illness, you may also want to read about Long COVID, Lyme disease, and mold illness.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Fatigue

Standard labs may not look at everything that affects energy, such as hormone balance, nutrient levels inside the cells, hidden infections, toxins, or how well your cells use oxygen and fuel. We look more broadly.

Some changes come with age, but persistent exhaustion is not something you simply have to accept. Many of the causes of fatigue can be identified and addressed.

Yes. Low thyroid function, imbalanced cortisol, and declining sex hormones are common contributors to low energy in both women and men.

Metabolic testing measures how your body uses oxygen and burns fuel at rest and during exercise. It can help guide your nutrition and exercise plan and show how your fitness changes over time.

It depends on what is causing your fatigue. Some patients notice changes early, while others improve more gradually as several causes are addressed. We adjust your plan as you progress.
